February – “Through Their Lenses”, photographs from MDES students

Like a lot of things, the K-8 Mount Desert Elementary School art show is a little bit different this year. Students at MDES took some time during their virtual art classes back in January to talk about the moment we are living in right now. We can read and listen to lectures about certain moments in history, but one of the best ways to truly understand the human experience is to look at the artwork.

Paintings, sculptures and photographs can give us a more empathetic lens into certain time periods. Using this construct, students were asked to take images of the world around them. What would they show people 50 or more years from now if they asked you what it was like to be alive in 2020 and 2021? We had photography homework and took local photography field trips. This art show is a selection of that work, enjoy!

The exhibit will be in the Mellon Room from February 9th through 26th. The library is open to visitors; for more information you can contact the library at 207 276 3333 or email talktous@nehlibrary.org.
