This is a true crime story, about the 2009 theft of 299 rare bird skins from the Tring Museum in England by a 22 year old American, Edwin Rist. He was arrested in 2010, but 106 skins were never recovered. Some of these bird skins had been collected by Alfred Wallace, the contemporary of Darwin. The author of the book set out to solve the mystery of the missing bird skins, and the story takes the reader into the world of fly tiers, who feel their attachment and use of these beautiful feathers of rare and endangered species trumps any other concern.
