This book is about a famous man-eating tiger killed by Jim Corbett in India, the Champawat
Tiger.
It had eaten almost 500 people by the time he killed it in 1907. The book is about more than
that however. It contrasts the situation for the tigers, the forest, and the people living in the
forest before the colonial period and after. The British deforested and hunted out their own
island before arriving in India, where they applied their ideas of control and economic
Development.
An easy and interesting read.
