March: Fiction Pick
This is a novel based on the life of Dorothea Lange, the woman photographer who gave the dust bowl and the depression it’s most famous images. Her mother, as a social worker single mother, had taken her along on her home visits, and Dorothea grew up at ease and curious about people in tough times. This is a look in to what it really was like to work for the famous WPA program, a look at America at a time when intellectuals were politically active, a look at an artist willing to endure physically stressful situations. Vivid read.
