September: Fiction Pick
This book is a bit too long, but is a good read. It is two stories, written in alternating chapters. One tells a tale from 800 years ago, when the Norman King of Sicily commissioned a famous cartographer to make a map of the area from Syria, across North Africa, to the land opposite Gibraltar. The other story is of a modern Syrian family, where the mother is a mapmaker, making a journey across similar terrain. The narrator in both stories is a young woman. A little bit of fantasy in it. Stays in the mind.
