Summer: Fiction Pick
This is a work of historical fiction, surrounding three characters, Mary Todd, Abraham Lincoln, and Joshua Speed, a close male friend of Lincoln’s. It takes place mostly in Springfield, Illinois, where Lincoln was working as a lawyer, climbing out of debt, and learning to be a member of society from his roommate, Joshua Speed. Mostly it is a tale told from Mary’s point of view. Easy to read, the kind of book you take with you everywhere, it is an entertainment. The author is good at little details of body language, voice inflection, the kinds of things an intuitive would notice. I recommend it.
