Library of Things – FAQ

Library of Things at Northeast Harbor Library

Ready to borrow something? See what’s available in the Library of Things.

You must have a Northeast Harbor Library account in good standing to borrow Things; anyone is eligible for an account. Some Things are not available to patrons under 18 and require a signed waiver to be signed. See our Library of Things Waiver.

MDES students are not allowed to borrow Things on their student accounts during school hours; they may borrow Things with a personal account outside of school hours.

MDES teachers are allowed to borrow Things with either a school or personal account. Temporary (Visitor) accounts that have paid a $20 deposit are allowed to borrow things.

By borrowing Things, you are assuming responsibility for it and agree to our Library of Things Borrowing and Use Agreement. Just like other library items, you may be billed for reasonable repair or replacement costs due to neglect or abuse.

See our catalog or browse the binder of things at the circulation desk. The Things are shelved throughout the building, though some require staff assistance to retrieve.

You may place holds on Things through Minerva or by contacting the library; you will be notified when the Thing you have reserved is available and ready for pickup at the circulation desk.

Things can be borrowed for 1 week and have 1 renewal if no one is waiting for the Thing. We can grant additional renewals on a case by case basis.

CD & DVD Players are lent for 3 weeks (same as CDs and DVDs, Blu-Rays, etc.)

All Things must be returned directly to our main lending desk; do not return Things to our book drop.

You can take our survey to suggest things that you would like to see us add to our collection or give us feedback.
