November Exhibit: Susannah Fisher, “An Expedition of Wonder”

The Northeast Harbor Library is excited to welcome realist painter Susannah Fisher to show work in the Mellon Room. “An Expedition of Wonder: The Birds Of Mount Desert Island and Downeast Maine,” which explores the beauty and vulnerability of our avian neighbors, opens November 4, 2025 and runs throughout November.

Susannah Fisher, an emerging artist based in Downeast Maine, is rapidly gaining recognition for her captivating portrayals of birds. Her self-taught artistic journey is fueled by a deep-seated connection to the natural world and a keen observation of her surroundings. This profound connection is evident in the meticulous detail and masterful capture of light, shadow, texture, and color that breathe life into her subjects. Each brushstroke reveals not only the physical beauty of birds but also their inherent grace, strength, and vulnerability.

“I’m trying to evoke a sense of wonder and reverence for the natural world,” she says. “I hope it prompts us to reconsider our relationship with the environment and to cherish and protect the fragile beauty that surrounds us. I believe that even the smallest creatures play a vital role in the intricate tapestry of life.” With her watercolor paintings, Fisher encourages viewers to pause and appreciate the quiet majesty of the everyday, the delicate balance of the ecosystem, and the urgent need for environmental conservation.

Susannah Fisher is an artist with a penchant for birds and the creator of Cricklewood Nature Journal on Substack, where she teaches art and nature enthusiasts how to draw and paint as a way to learn about and appreciate our world.
