A free-to-enter, all ages chess tournament organized by the Northeast Harbor Library and MDI Chess. Beginner friendly; if you know how the pieces move, this tournament is for you! WHAT TO BRING:
- Your own chess sets and clocks, if you have them. A limited number of sets and clocks will be available for those without.
- Water and food, if desired. Light snacks will be provided for free by the library.
TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE & TIMELINE:
- 50 player maximum
- Four sections
- Open (most advanced players) – first round starts 10:00 am
- Rated Under 1000 – first round starts 10:15 am
- Rated Under 600 – first round starts 10:30 am
- Non-Rated Community – first round starts 10:45 am
- Check-in/late registration for each section opens 45 minutes before the first round of that section
- Four rounds of Swiss (no elimination) in each section. Rated games get 30 minutes per side (G/30). Non-rated games get 15 minutes per side (G/15). Expected to finish by 3:00 pm.
- Medals and prizes will be awarded by the library for the top three players in each section
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS:
- All sections – except Non-Rated Community – are US Chess Federation rated and require a US Chess membership, available for purchase at uschess.org
- Half price scholastic (PK-12th grade) US Chess memberships available through Maine Chess Association

- If you’re playing the Non-Rated Community section, put “non-rated” when prompted for your US Chess membership number.
