FIC: Aperirogan by Colum McCann

May: Fiction Pick

Colum McCann has done it again- written a riveting novel, full of passion.  What a relief to read about male characters who are so clear about themselves and act so well.  This novel is about two actual people, one Israeli and one Palestinian, who each lost a daughter, much loved.  One daughter was killed by Israeli police, one was killed by suicide bombers in a café.  Together these two men tell their story, to whoever will listen, as part of a citizen’s peace group.  Their friendship, and their attempt to make sense in an insane world, makes this story live.  It’s a long book, 450 pages, written in very short numbered segments.   It moves with a quick pace, no unnecessary words.  A great book.
