January: MDES Student Art

The library is proud to exhibit work from MDES students this January in the Mellon room. The students and teacher Shannon Westphal have been busy these past few months!

Each grade level K – 8 is represented with a selection of their work this year; students tackled a variety of concepts, mediums, and projects in their exploration of art, artists, and art history. In this show, you will see Pop Art from the Kindergarten class and Impressionism from the first graders. Second and third grade created galaxies in watercolor and metal tooling. Fourth grade got wild with animal masks and drawings.  The fifth graders painted on silk using a resist process to create landscapes and seascapes. Sixth grade explored acrylic paints and composition in their donut paintings. The wire and bead fish from seventh grade were investigations of positive and negative space. Eighth graders got to choose their own work from what they’ve done this year.

This exciting show is up the entire month of January. The room is occasionally booked for private use, please call the library at 276 3333 to confirm availability if you are making a special trip to see the exhibit.
