Kate Harris is an explorer, a person who grew up wanting to go to Mars. This book is a record of a bicycle trip she and a childhood friend made following the Silk Road, from Turkey, across parts of China, sneaking into Tibet, and back through Nepal and India. It’s not just a description of travel however, with all its discomforts and adventures. This is also about the author’s reaching for something beyond the ordinary limits of our culture, something she finds in extreme wild places. Very interesting book.
